HUMU 250: Final Project Peer Review Assignment

Once you have turned your project in to the Discussion Board folder this week, select a minimum of one
other project which has not yet been peer reviewed (first-come, first-served). View it, and then answer
these questions in a ?reply? to the original post.
Note: This assignment is separate from the Discussion Grade, and is worth 30 points. Do a thorough job.
1. How has the project met the requirements of the assignment? In terms of topic, length, design, not
?reading a script,? how would you rate this draft? Be constructive, but be honest. There?s still time for
the author to revise before turning this in for a grade.
2. What are the possible future benefits the technology poses for society as discussed in the
presentation? If you aren?t sure, explain why.
3. What are the possible future challenges the technology poses for society as discussed in the
presentation? If you aren?t sure, explain why.
[Authors: If what the viewer is learning isn?t what you set out to teach, you have some revising to do].
4. What was the best part of this presentation? What could still use some work? (Really think about
this?don?t just say ?nothing, it was great?).
Be thoughtful about this review, as it can really help your classmate hone the presentation and earn a
higher score! All reviews are due no later than Sunday night at midnight.
If for some reason your project was posted by the Thursday night deadline but was not reviewed,
contact the instructor no later than Monday morning.

HUMU 250 Final Project
This term, we?ve discussed and analyzed many ways in which digital technologies are
fundamentally influencing or changing society. Now, you will take what you have learned and
teach others.
This assignment has three parts:
First, select one of these topics
1. The impact of the use/growth/spread of digital tools and/or the use of social media
(?crowdsourcing? might be an example).
2. The impact of 3-D printers:
3. The impact of ?augmented reality? (Google Glass, iPad apps).
4. The impact of ?digital mapping? tools.
5. The impact of ?interactive? media such as television or movies.
6. The impact of ?wearable computers?
7. The impact of robots. (Anybots, for example, or Elder Care Robots).
8. The impact of ?telemedicine.?
9. The impact of digital analytics or cloud technologies.
10. The impact of teleconferencing.
Second, explain how the digital technology you have chosen will impact the future in one of the
following areas: education (elementary, secondary, or post-secondary), law, law enforcement,
psychology, business, healthcare, construction, engineering, computer science or any other
field in which you have an interest. How will this affect society at large?
Example: The use of ?augmented reality? in future classrooms at the elementary level
and how this will impact society.

Note: You are encouraged to choose your own topic, but you must have that topic
approved by your instructor. Please send an email which includes the topic, the field,
and the working thesis statement (the thesis may change as you write).
Third: Once you have your topic, you will create an online presentation of 8-10 minutes in
length which introduces your topic and uses what we know about these tools/trends to
extrapolate what impact they will have on our future.
Possible Tools: You can use whatever is comfortable for you?but an audio component is
required. You will need to give a presentation, and it is important that you do not just ?read?
into the microphone, though having a script and practicing it first will make the job much easier.
Pretend that you are standing in front of a crowd?engage them.

Blended Courses: For students taking this course on-site, this presentation may be given inclass
(consult your instructor). You will still create the presentation online, and your classmates
will view it online and take notes before coming to class. You will take questions and lead a
discussion about your topic in person.
